SOCIETÀ CANOTTIERI FIRENZE

Società Canottieri Firenze Vanto e Gloria in Florence since 1886: the first Florentine rowing society, was formally established in 1886 with the name "Florence" and the following year, 12 May 1887, on the inauguration of the Santa Maria del Fiore cathedral façade, rowing competitions were held on the Arno in the afternoon, at 3 pm, amongst numerous city events.

"Canottieri Firenze" was founded on 6th February 1911, as the direct heir to the "Libertas" ancestors, founded in 1890 (whose shirt was adorned with the Lily of Florence), and of the "Florentia". All branches of the same tree, from which a society dedicated to the famous navigator and explorer "Amerigo Vespucci", was born in Greve in Chianti to a Florentine family.

"Canottieri Firenze" takes on the heraldic colours of the Municipality of Florence which is distinguished by its social shirt: white with three alternating red bands. In 1913 the first Italian titles arrive.

Società Canottieri today

Today, La Società Canottieri Firenze 1886, Stella d'Oro and Collare d'Oro del CONI al merito Sportivo, is a modern sports association oriented to the future and continually engaged in social and sports education, ethics and the morals of young people. In addition to the highly decorated competitive activity that has allowed us to feed many champions to the national team, the association organises beginners' rowing courses for young people and offers basic physical activity for children during the summer, with specialised instructors recognized by CONI. The sports structure of Società Canottieri includes two gyms with modern gymnastic and weightlifting equipment, a rowing tank and 20 rowing machines for indoor rowing, over 60 boats for use on the Arno, with Ponte Vecchio and the splendid Uffizi visible.

Our Building

The historic structure has a beautiful restaurant and bar, open for lunch and dinner, reserved for members, but also available for special events, where you can spend a pleasant time socialising and enjoying drinks and excellent dishes, perhaps taking advantage of an exceptional view such as Ponte Vecchio and the slow and elegant flow of the river Arno, right where the old heart of Florence always beats and excites you every time.
